Jesus, the Most Beautiful Book…..a “saint next door” tells us!

The Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, present today in three continents, have at the forefront of their lives the strong desire to illustrate by their faithful commitment, the pages of the “Most Beautiful Book that God has given us, Jesus Christ suffering and dying on the Cross “.

That was the gripping title chosen for one of his works by their founder Blessed Peter Vigne, in 1715. For John the Evangelist, Jesus is the Incarnate Word! For Peter Vigne, he is the Book written by God! What matters most for him, is to keep one’s eyes and mind fixed on Christ, especially on Christ in his Passion.

“Yes, Peter Vigne has still much to say to us today, because of his preferential option for the poor, his concern for the practice of Eucharistic worship, his sense of the mercy of God, his esteem for the Word of God, and his desire for the unity of the Church”. That is the firm conviction expressed by Bishop Alain Planet, Bishop of Carcassonne and Narbonne, in the preface to the biography ‘Peter Vigne in solidarity with the humble’ published in 2012.

“In their daily perseverance I see the holiness of the Church militant. Very often it is a holiness found in our next-door neighbours, those who, living in our midst, reflect God’s presence”. (Gaudete et Exsultate, 7) Isn’t Peter Vigne one of those signs of holiness sent by the Lord to encourage us?

Pope Francis would certainly have got on well with Blessed Peter Vigne!!
